Is Your Child Prepared to Enter Primary School | ¡¡Hits£º16658¡¡AddTime£º2015-5-15 16:30:59 |
Is my child is prepared to successfully transition to primary school from kindergarten? Every family of a pre-school child is very concerned with this question. The jump to primary school requires that educators and family focus on cultivating good habits in study as well as in life and developing their capabilities in all areas.
1. Cultivating healthy study habits
Family and kindergarten need to co-operate to create a positive study environment. Parents must be made comfortable to believe in their child¡¯s ability to become a success student and in the kindergarten¡¯s ability to be a place where this can happen. School and home need to be partners in ensuring that students do homework regularly and don¡¯t leave tasks incomplete, all the while encouraging kids to do their best. Parents are encouraged to check content and volume of homework assignments so that they can help their child plan a regular time to work on these tasks. Parents should also be active in checking homework for completion, correctness and neatness.
2. Cultivating positive life habits
For kids it¡¯s important to focus on four key areas:
1) Establishing a healthy lifestyle and routine
2) Fostering a sense of independence
3) Life skill training
4) Developing work-ethic
Many parents think that their child is too young and can¡¯t handle housework while others may not want their kids to have the same difficulties they did as a child. Still more parents think study is or primary importance to kids and that housework will take time from their school work. These are all valid ideas, but they neglect the fact that children learn important life skills from doing housework. There are also benefits in the good memories of family working together. Trusting kids to participate at home helps build confidence, self-respect, sense of responsibility and promotes the development of children's emotional intelligence.
