Earth Day

At CLS we celebrate Earth Day, which is officially celebrated around the globe on April 22nd, by talking about the environment, learning about environmental issues and taking part in fun lessons that help children learn about different ways that we can make a difference for the betterment of our planet.

Throughout the week teachers were using different activities to explain the importance of Earth Day. Some teachers were showing powerful videos about what we can do to make our air, water and land cleaner. Some teachers showed a video talking about all the billions of small pieces of small plastic that are floating in our oceans. Those tiny fragments of plastic are eaten by small animals which are in turn eaten by fish and in turn we eat those fish which puts those tiny pieces of plastic into our bodies!

Another class was learning about the 3R's - Reduce, Reuse and Recycle to help keep our planet Earth clean and healthy. They reused some recyclable material to make doll houses, costumes, and even a mini waterpark!

Students were challenged to work in teams to build a robot using recycled materials to show that we can use "trash" in different ways.

Students also brainstormed things that are amazing about the earth and how we can protect the earth and made foldables. Later we went outside to get fresh air and enjoy physical activity.
