Cultivating Understanding of Western and Chinese Culture Through Modern and Traditional Learning Models
Our kids today face a higher degree of pressure from competition than in times past. To compete in both domestic and international job markets, students need to excel in western language and culture as well as being knowledgeable about Chinese culture. Parents too feel pressure to meet children¡¯s need to balance modern learning with traditional methods and materials in order that they keep pace with the demands of today¡¯s employers. When family¡¯s turn to Canadian Foreign Language School (CLS) they are asking us to help with that balance.
CLS¡¯s curriculum is set up on three basic pillars; international English lessons, Chinese classical education lessons and compulsory education lessons. From these three starting points our highly-certified staff work to build flexible, creative lessons which meet students¡¯ traditional needs as learners, but which also keep them on the cutting edge of modern learning processes.
Our English program is co-run by our foreign and Chinese teachers with two scheduled sessions per day. Lessons are then taught and address for major areas; oral communication, reading skill, science and technology. Both our Foreign and Chinese English teachers are selected only after careful scrutiny to provide students the best opportunity to embrace foreign language and culture when they are young, so that it becomes a part of their regular routines.
Chinese traditional culture courses at CLS include calligraphy, Chinese painting, Wushu, literature classic readings, Chinese musical instruments and chess. Through this wide range of offered courses students are invited to take advantage of our diverse staff and first-class facilities to expand their cognitive abilities as well as their personal sense of the history of their traditional culture.
Over the past semester, we¡¯ve worked to refine our approach to education. With upgrades to school curriculum we¡¯re proud and excited to share CIEO¡¯s characteristic experience with the community. We¡¯re very proud of the achievements our students have made under our program and are grateful for the positive feedback we¡¯ve received from parents.
